They may not be the tallest structures in the world (they were from 1998-2004), but they are surely two of the most iconic side-by-side towers on the planet. The Petronas Towers ARE the tallest twin towers in the world, at 1483 ft/ 452 meters, and compared to all tall structures, they are still in the top 15. Ironically the new #2, Merdeka118, (679 meters) is just a few blocks away and can be seen from the top of the Petronas, as well as the KL Tower, another Top 20 tallest structure.
But enough about the numbers…it’s really about the feeling.
The feel I get when I see a building like this and wonder, “How can they build something this big?” I thought the same thing in Sept. 2021, when I was lucky enough to look down on the city of Dubai from the (still) tallest building in the world, the Burj Kalifa. Here’s a new video of that.
After we did a tour of the tower, we timed it perfectly to catch the light show put on at the convention center which they do every night for about 15 minutes. It’s like a downscale version of the Bellagio in Las Vegas, still very cool.
As Kat and I continue our travels we sometimes take our lives for granted. I mean, we are not tourists, so we don’t always do the tourist stuff. Many days we (mostly I) sometimes stay in my room and work, since it’s what I do. But in Kuala Lumpur, I KNEW that we would do these towers since iconic things like this still awe me, even after 62 months on the road.
