So far Pattaya is winning us over after just two weeks. The weather has been hot, but surprisingly comfortable, and I think not as humid as Vietnam or Malaysia. We are able to go outside and “do things” without melting, and since we have a really killer pool and beach area, we’re taking advantage of them. I found a bike club in the area and a rental company and took on a Honda Forza 300 for a few days. I got a nice ride out in the countryside to see some of the back areas, and even though the bike for ME felt like a Barca Lounger on wheels, for Kat the back seat was NOT as comfortable as the front. It’s a heavy scooter, pretty wide as well as long, and with an auto transmission it’s easy to get around. We ventured down to a national park on a military base, with a private beach, Sai Kaew, and on the way out drove by a cat shelter. It was also run by military personnel and they allowed us to stop in and visit the cats, who were very friendly and affectionate. We both agree that having a pet is just not in the cards yet– it’s hard enough just moving US!
I also did a longer solo ride and found a really nice scenic view spot, ALSO on the same military base. I was unable to ride the bike in to the end of the road, so had to hike about 1.5 km to get to the top, and it was magnificent, plus had a beautiful shrine at the summit.
We’ve explored a bit more of the town and find that there’s a few other areas to check out for longer term stays. Jomtien Beach is one of them, and is recommended by several people. But we DO love the Wongamat Beach area where we’re staying for another 30 days and found an awesome beach restaurant just 5 minutes away, plus several other eateries. When we leave here we head back to Bangkok, then pick up a train south into Malaysia for 90 days
